"The Sounds Of Shearing, A Knight To Remember" under
the direction of Charlie Shoemake.
In January of 2009, there was a Cambria Jazz Festival held during
the Martin Luther King week-end. At the conclusion of the festival
(which was held at the veterans hall) the scene shifted over to
the Hamlet restaurant, home of the long running famous
jazz artist series. This concluding event featured series producer
Charlie Shoemake playing a tribute to his old boss George Shearing
by re-creating the famous sound of the classic Quintet with an
assembly of all star players performing some of the groups timeless
songs. The result was a huge success with turn away crowds. Word
of the performance spread and soon after, the famed management
company International Ventures Inc. (the representatives of Sir
George Shearing) and even Sir George himself felt that the Quintet
sound should be made available again world wide, now under the
direction of Charlie Shoemake. Thus, "The New Sounds Of Shearing" was
born. The group features some of America's top level artists. Besides,
the leader Charlie Shoemake, on vibraphone, the other members include
Terry Trotter, piano, Ron Anthony, guitar, Luther Hughes, bass,
and Colin Bailey, drums, a veritable who's who of American jazz.
